The YMCA of Greater Long Beach will build strong kids, strong families and strong communities and
will contribute
powerfully
to life in Long Beach and the partner cities we serve. All activities of the YMCA will strengthen
the family,
and show,
by the example of our work, how people of all backgrounds can live together and grow toward their
full
potential.
Our Mission
The YMCA of Greater Long Beach is an Association that welcomes people of all ages, ethnic groups,
and religious
affiliations
to unite in a common effort to put Judeo-Christian principles and values into practice, through
programs that
develop
healthy spirit, mind, and body for ourselves, our families, our children and community.
Since 1884 the YMCA of Greater Long Beach has served the children, teens, adults and families of Long
Beach and
its surrounding
communities. Today, the YMCA of Greater Long Beach is the oldest and largest youth and family
nonprofit
organization
in Long Beach, serving over 35,000 individuals annually, through five community branches and camping
services
Camp Oakes
in Big Bear. Committed to reaching outside its facilities, the YMCA also partners with hundreds of
community
organizations
to effectively involve more.
The YMCA of Greater Long Beach annually presents Mission Driven Staff Awards to recognize exemplary
staff
members. The awards
include: Member Involvement, Volunteer Development, Character Develoment, and Cultural Competence.
