Job Description

The Los Cerritos YMCA is looking for a part time Youth Bus Driver to drive children participating in the YMCA before and after school program . As a Youth Bus Driver, the individual’s top priority is safety. It is also important to build positive working relationships with the children, parents and coworkers.

Essential Functions:

  1. Drives bus safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.

  2. Ensure safety of children, making sure they picked up and dropped off at appropriate locations.

  3. Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and record all information. Records

    gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms. Cleans out bus each day.

  4. Promotes safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.

  5. Ensures that bus rules are announced and followed.

  6. Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.

  7. Attend all staff meetings, trainings and other YMCA functions as required by Supervisor

  8. Maintain open lines of communication with participant, parents, staff and supervisor.

  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.

  2. Class B drivers license and passenger endorsement from CHP.

  3. First Aid, CPR, and Youth Bus certificate required.

  4. Must meet California and Federal requirements and YMCA Transportation qualifications regarding

    MVR report and maintain satisfactory driving record. Page 1 of 2

  1. Must complete Association Training and testing program.

  2. Must have current Medical Examiner’s Certificate.

  3. Criminal Clearance including fingerprints.

  4. MVR report, Drug Test, Health Exam to include TB test and clearance.

  5. Complete Online New Employee Orientation and Child Abuse Prevention Training.

  6. Must be at least 21 years of age.

  7. Experience as a van driver required.

Working Conditions:

Environmental Factors: Indoor and outdoor facilities (e.g. childcare and recreational sites); exposure to heat, cold, potentially hazardous chemicals, toxic materials; work on slippery or uneven surfaces. Noise level is usually moderate to loud. While in this position the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places.
