Vehicle Driver - Los Altos
Job Description
Position Summary:
The Los Altos Family YMCA is a looking for experienced drivers to drive passenger vans. As a vehicle driver, the top priority is safety. Under the supervision of the Transportation Coordinator, the Youth Vehicle Driver will drive children participating in the YMCA before and after school programs and any other programs throughout the year. May also provide support in other areas as assigned.
Essential Functions:
- Drives bus safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.
- Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and record all information. Records gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms. Cleans out bus each day.
- Promotes safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
- Ensures that bus rules are announced and followed.
- Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
- Attend all staff meetings, trainings and other YMCA functions as required by Supervisor
- Maintain open lines of communication with participant, parents, staff and supervisor.
- Knowledge of California Motor Vehicle Code, Education Code sections and laws applicable to student transportation, as well as deadlines to submit paperwork and inspections.
- Responsible for maintaining updated license and certifications to transport passengers
- Responsible for maintenance of vehicle, including interior cleanliness, fluid and fuel levels, documenting pre-trip / post-trip checklists, and vehicle inspection.
- Work with Transportation Coordinator regarding any vehicle issues.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- CPR & First Aid certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Must meet California and Federal requirements and YMCA Transportation qualifications regarding MVR report and maintain satisfactory driving record.
- Must complete Association Training and testing program.
- Must have current Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
- Class B/Youth Bus or Class C license and MVR report.
- Criminal Clearance including fingerprints
- Health Exam Screening with Negative TB test and Negative Drug Test Screening.
- Complete online New Employee Orientation and Child Abuse Prevention training.
- Experience as a van driver preferred.
- At least 3 years of licensed driving experience demonstrating safe and defensive driving practices prior to this application.
- Submit to a fingerprint / background check
- Complete all online trainings
- Criminal clearance including fingerprints
- Health Screening with negative TB test and negative drug screening
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Working Conditions:
Environmental Factors: Indoor and outdoor facilities (e.g. childcare and recreational sites); exposure to heat, cold, potentially hazardous chemicals, toxic materials; work on slippery or uneven surfaces. Noise level is usually moderate to loud. While in this position the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places.
