Position Summary:

Provide high-level basketball training and skill development instruction to youth and adult participants in a safe, engaging, and positive environment that promotes athletic growth, confidence, and love for the game — in alignment with YMCA values, policies, and procedures.

Essential Functions:

1. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of basketball fundamentals, game strategy, player development, and skill progression for various age and skill levels.

2. Ability to design and lead individual and group basketball training sessions tailored to the needs, experience, and goals of participants.

3. Execute player development programs focused on improving shooting, ball handling, defense, conditioning, and basketball IQ in a safe and effective manner.

4. Provide consistent instruction that emphasizes teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, and positive character development.

5. Motivate and inspire athletes to achieve personal and athletic goals while maintaining a fun, encouraging atmosphere.

6. Build strong relationships with players, parents, and YMCA members; help participants connect with the Y community.

7. Maintain working knowledge of current basketball training methods, trends, and coaching techniques to deliver high-quality instruction.

8. Keep accurate attendance and progress records for all training sessions and participants.

9. Communicate regularly with supervisors, staff, and parents to ensure program quality and participant satisfaction.

10. Uphold YMCA policies and safety procedures; respond appropriately to emergency situations.

11. Attend all required staff meetings, trainings, and YMCA functions as directed by the supervisor.

12. Represent the YMCA mission and core values—Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility— both on and off the court.

13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred: Former Varsity High School and/or Collegiate Basketball player, or High School/College coaching experience.
  • Proven background in Basketball skill development training, player evaluation, and basketball program leadership.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and motivational skills.
  • Must hold or be willing to obtain current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
  • Criminal Clearance, Health Exam with TB test.
  • Must attend a new employee orientation within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Five plus years of experience teaching Basketball group classes required.

Working Conditions:

Environmental Factors: Indoor and outdoor facilities (e.g. childcare and recreational sites); exposure to heat, cold, potentially hazardous chemicals, toxic materials; work on slippery or uneven surfaces. Noise level is usually moderate.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay Range: $25.68 - $39.40
