The Lakewood Family YMCA is growing and progressive Branch that is looking for passionate and dynamic individuals who can positively contribute to our team. We are looking for Certified Fitness Instructor(s) who possess a charismatic charm that will capture the attention of members and keep them coming back for more!  Under the supervision of the Group Fitness Coordinator, Certified Fitness Instructor(s) are responsible for instructing a variety of classes in a safe, enjoyable and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement.  Instructor(s) will be responsible for managing those functions in accordance with the stated mission and policies established by the YMCA.

Primary job responsibilities will includes:

  • Leads group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
  • Conducts energizing, fun, safe, and educational classes.
  • Builds effective relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
  • Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  • Keeps accurate class attendance records.
  • Keep up with evolving music and fitness trends.
  • Provide instruction to members on fitness and well being.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
  • Attend all staff meetings, trainings and other YMCA functions as required by Supervisor.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with staff, participants, and supervisor.

    Skills / Requirements


    • Must have current Certified Exercise Certification
    • Required certifications: Current CPR, First Aid, AED
    • National certification (ACE, AFAA, NETA,) in group fitness instruction highly recommended
    • At least one year of experience teaching group exercise classes
    • Must complete criminal clearance including fingerprints, health exam screening  with neg TB test and negative drug test screening,
    • Complete ALL required online training.

    Environmental Factors:  Indoor and outdoor facilities (e.g. childcare and recreational sites); exposure to heat, cold, potentially hazardous chemicals, toxic materials; work on slippery or uneven surfaces.  Noise level is usually moderate.
