Job Description

The Fairfield Family YMCA in Long Beach is looking for a Ballet Folklorico Instructor. Ballet Folklorico Instructor will teach and instruct children between ages of 5-12. Instructor will also organize 3-4 small dance performances a year for parents and family members. Instructor must provide excellent service to members in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Schedule evenings:  Monday 5pm-6pm, Tuesday 5pm-6pm, Thursday 5pm-6pm

Must answer pre-screening questions. 

Primary job responsibilities will include:

  • Leads group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
  • Conducts energizing, fun, safe, and educational classes.
  • Builds effective relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
  • Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  • Keeps accurate class attendance records.
  • Keep up with evolving music and fitness trends.
  • Provide instruction to members on fitness and wellbeing.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
  • Attend all staff meetings, trainings and other YMCA functions as required by Supervisor.
  • Organize 3-4 small dance performances a year for parents and family members.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with staff, parents, and supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills / Requirements

Qualifications:

  1. Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, and AED.
  2. One type of national certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification required.
  3. Certification in areas of expertise- School Dance or Dance Certification in Folklorico.
  4. At least 2 years of experience teaching children ages 5-12 in Folklorico. 
  5. Criminal Clearance- Livescan 
  6. Health Exam with negative TB test, Negative Drug Test  Screening.
  7. Complete ALL online required training(s).

Working Conditions:

Environmental Factors:  Indoor and outdoor facilities (e.g. childcare and recreational sites); exposure to heat, cold, potentially hazardous chemicals, toxic materials; work on slippery or uneven surfaces.  Noise level is usually moderate.
