Aquatics Coordinator - Los Cerritos
Job Description
Position Summary:
Assist in the supervision of all areas pertaining to aquatics. Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
Essential Functions:
1. Ensure a safe swimming environment for all participants.
2. Be rescue ready at all times when on deck and during scheduled work hours.
3. Complete necessary forms when needed i.e. testing, incident reports, pool maintenance, etc.
4. Perform pool opening and closing procedures – training is provided.
5. Promote growth in all aquatics programs by being an active member of the Aquatics department.
6. Maintain cleanliness of pool area and reinforces the pool safety procedures and policies.
7. Responsible for scheduling classes, completing program paperwork, scheduling lifeguards, supervising Lifeguards 1 and 2 when requested and may act as the Director in their absence.
8. Ability to conduct lifeguard training.
9. Serve as a first responder in the event of an emergency at the branch.
10. Attend all staff meetings, trainings and other YMCA functions as required by Supervisor.
11. Maintain open lines of communication with participant, coaches, referee, staff and supervisor.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
1. Education & Certifications: Must be 18 years of age. Current certification for Lifeguard training (recognized by the State of California), First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and O2 required and must be maintained and kept in current status. Water Safety Instructor (Red Cross) or Fundamentals of Teaching YMCA Swim Lesson and YMCA Lifeguard Certification required.
2. Must pass a 150 yard pre-employment swim test.
3. Be able to perform all requirements for lifeguard certification and demonstrate skills as required (example: in-service trainings)
4. Criminal clearance including fingerprints.
5. Health screening with negative TB test and negative Drug Test Screening
6. Complete required online training(s).
7. Strong communication skills (both written and oral).
8. Public relations skills and/or experience working with a diverse population desired.
9. Two or more years experience working as a lifeguard in an aquatics facility. 1 year of experience hiring and supervising staff or similar type management role.
Working Conditions:
Environmental Factors: Indoor and outdoor facilities (e.g. gymnasium and recreational sites); exposure to heat, cold, potentially hazardous chemicals, toxic materials; work on slippery or uneven surfaces. Noise level is usually moderate.
